Red Bull could lose 5 tenths according to Marko
Following the FIA's decision to restrict the double diffuser.
In ten days, at Silverstone, the Formula One teams will have to contend with the restriction of the blown diffuser. This measure is expected to primarily penalize teams equipped with a Renault engine, as the French block is particularly effective in this area, providing more blowing than the other engines on the grid.
On the Red Bull Racing side, there doesn’t seem to be much concern, even if it is admitted that this measure will have consequences on the performance of the RB7 designed by Adrian Newey.
The team’s advisor, Helmut Marko, believes that the Austrian team will lose about five tenths per lap. « We expect to lose approximately half a second per lap. However, we have worked to reduce this in terms of setup and aerodynamics. We are optimistic that we will maintain our level of performance, » explains Marko.
If this decision should not therefore hinder Red Bull Racing’s forward march, Marko admits that the team is disappointed with the FIA’s attitude.
« We would have understood if it had been decided at the end of the season like other technical developments recently. But doing this mid-season is a bit strange and not entirely understandable, » declares Helmut Marko.
