If you are fans of F1 and particularly of Nick Heidfeld, driver at Lotus Renault GP, know that the German driver has just launched a contest through his website nickheidfeld.com. The idea is to imagine a helmet design for the German Grand Prix, which will take place from July 22 to 24 at the Nürburgring circuit.
Aspiring designers can use a CAD (Computer Assisted Design) tool installed on the pilot’s website, complete with color palette, brushes, and shapes. The design proposals will be showcased in an online gallery, thus entering a competition. The winning design will be painted on a Schuberth F1 helmet and worn by Nick at the German Grand Prix.
“The contest allows my fans to express their creativity, which will result in a unique decoration for my Nürburgring race,” explains Nick. “I am really looking forward to seeing the results of this creative effort. Two years ago, when we first launched such a contest, we received over 9000 ideas. It was extraordinary,” he recalls. “This time, I chose the theme ‘Black, red, gold’ because I will wear the helmet in Germany and also because these are the colors of my car.”
« I will designate the best one with Jens Munser, who has decorated my helmets in recent years. The winner of the contest will personally hand me the helmet in the Nürburgring paddock on Friday. It will certainly be a great moment, » adds Nick. « He will be my guest at the Nürburgring as I will offer him two tickets for the weekend, including accommodation. »
At the end of the race, the helmet will be given to RTL for an auction benefiting its charitable foundation ‘Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.’ as part of this year’s ‘Spendenmarathon’. Nick strongly supports this charity: « It’s important for me to support this initiative in the long term and contribute something tangible. Therefore, this helmet will be auctioned during the ‘Spendenmarathon’ on RTL. Of course, I hope that this sale will benefit RTL foundation’s children’s aid projects. »
