PURE is working on a V6 for 2014
Craig Pollock's company has been working on a 4-cylinder since last December.
If the FIA’s decision to abandon the inline 4-cylinder engine in favor of a turbo V6 meets the expectations of the manufacturers involved in the discipline, there is a newcomer who was considering entering the category by 2013 and is much less enthusiastic about this turn of events. This is Craig Pollock and his company PURE.
« Sport needs to move towards a cleaner engine. The V6 is not exactly the ideal solution, but that’s what has been decided and we will respect that, » explains Pollock in an interview with the site gpudate.net.
It was at the beginning of last May that Pollock, former manager of Jacques Villeneuve and head of the BAR team, announced his intention to return to F1 through the company PURE (Propulsion Universelle et Recuperation d’Energie). Very early on, contacts were made with the various teams to present the project. It will now be necessary to reschedule the presentation sessions.
« I will be at Silverstone next Friday for a meeting with the FIA. I will discuss once again with all the teams but in reality, there is no one technically capable of convincing a team that they will have a good engine for 2014, it’s too early, » explains Pollock.
Nevertheless, all is not completely lost for PURE, which hopes to use some of the technologies initially planned for the 4-cylinder on the upcoming 2014 turbo V6.
« We are already well underway. You have a first phase where you need to analyze everything you need. Fortunately, we will probably be able to use a large part of the technologies planned for the 4-cylinder on our V6. »
