Saturday: Kovalainen puts Team Lotus in Q2
For the second time this season, Team Lotus places a car in Q2. Heikki Kovalainen managed to take advantage of the conditions to finish 16th at the end of Q1. Unfortunately, in Q2 he couldn't hope for better than 17th position, which is still a good result for the young team. Less luck for Jarno Trulli, who hopes for a trouble-free race tomorrow.
Heikki Kovalainen – 17th:
« I am happy. Before qualifying, we knew it would be important to get the most out of the slick tires because rain was expected, but we didn’t know when it would arrive. At the start of Q1, I managed to do a good lap and extract the most from the car almost immediately. Then when I went out for my second attempt, the rain started, but we were already where we wanted to be, so the team can be satisfied. »
Let’s hope I can have a good race starting 17th. I know that the whole team works very well together and even if the outright performance isn’t there yet, we continue to do our best and attack, that’s why we’re here in our second season, so days like today are very encouraging for me and everyone at Team Lotus.
Jarno Trulli – 21st:
« The rain played its part in Q1, and unfortunately the session was cut short after I only completed one lap. It wasn’t a good enough lap, which is a shame, but we have a car in Q2 which shows we have the pace to challenge the cars ahead, so hopefully I can have a solid race tomorrow, as long as I can avoid bad luck. »
