Saturday: Toro Rosso got caught out by the rain

Jaime Alguersuari – 16th and 18th

We were a bit unlucky and we didn’t do everything right because we should have switched to soft tires earlier as they are worth two seconds more than the hard tires, so we never exploited 100% of our potential. But it’s not all negative because we have good information in case it rains again tomorrow but also regarding the hard tires on long stints, so we could be in a good position for the race.

If we make the most of every opportunity, then it will not be impossible for us to finish in the points again.

At least I have plenty of new tires ready to be used, and with limited use of DRS during the race, we could be competitive in both dry and wet conditions.

Sebastien Buemi – 17th and 19th

« I’m a little disappointed because we didn’t expect the rain to come so quickly, which means we weren’t able to use the soft tires as early as we should have. But the rain fell heavily on my out lap, so I never had the chance to set a good time with the soft tires, which are generally two seconds faster than the hard tires.

The positive aspect is that we have plenty of new tires for tomorrow, so let’s hope the track will be dry.

From these positions on the grid, making a good start will be essential because even with DRS, I think overtaking will be difficult on this track. This season, we have often started from poor positions on the grid, but we have always improved in the race, and I hope this will be the case tomorrow.

Giorgio Ascanelli

« Of course, it’s a disappointment not to make it to Q2. This morning, the drivers didn’t really have the opportunity to run with low fuel quantities as we focused on race preparation, so we started the qualifying by sending them out on hard tires for a few laps to gather their impressions with a light car. Then, as soon as they came in to switch to soft tires, the rain started to fall, which meant we couldn’t improve our lap time. »
