Saturday: Lotus Renault GP keeps hope for the race
Like many teams, Lotus Renault GP suffered from the unpredictable weather over Silverstone, but the restriction on blowing seems to have affected the British team more severely than its rivals. Petrov and Heidfeld will rely on their strategy to bounce back during the race.
Vitaly Petrov – 15th and 14th
« I am disappointed because we came here with higher ambitions. The rain disrupted things this weekend, there is no doubt about it. Today again, the weather made things difficult. As a result, we couldn’t unlock our potential and secure a flying lap which we would have needed.
That said, the car seemed quite solid and fast in high-speed corners, so I’m still optimistic about our chances of gaining a few positions in tomorrow’s race. I hope our strategy will work because the DRS sector is not really long and overtaking opportunities here are limited.
We must be truly focused on our race in order to elevate our level of performance, but we are ready to meet the challenge.
Nick Heidfeld – 18th and 16th
« At this stage, it remains difficult to see how the changes in mapping regulations affect our performance this weekend. It has had an impact, of course, but our impression is that today’s situation is the result of several factors. The rain also made our preparation difficult.
The car is not bad to drive and does not seem slow, we just have not been in a position to fully exploit its potential.
We were having trouble with the rear wing yesterday and we changed it this morning for qualifying but obviously it’s a disappointment to be only sixteenth.
