Sunday: A Smooth Race for Virgin
For once, the Virgin drivers experienced a relatively calm race, especially after the retirements of the Team Lotus drivers. Having made a good start, Timo Glock, in 16th place, was ahead of his teammate, who managed an overtaking maneuver on Liuzzi before struggling at the end of the race.
Timo Glock – 16th
« It’s a good race for us today and a good result for the team to bring both cars to the finish of our home Grand Prix. I would say it was a pretty normal race for us. I got off to a good start and had a good first lap. The first corners were a bit hectic but when everything started to settle down, I was ahead of Jarno and I could maintain my pace to stay in front of him. As soon as they retired, I had a relatively easy race. It was not possible to gain positions, so I didn’t push too hard, I just focused on our goal for the day which was once again to bring both cars to the finish. I am happy for us and I hope to do the same for my home race in Germany.
Jerome d’Ambrosio – 17th
« It was very difficult at the beginning when the track was wet, and I lost a bit of time at that moment. Then, during my second stint, it went well. I had a good fight with Tonio and managed to overtake him. The last stint was very difficult; after a few laps, I lost grip on the right front tire, so I couldn’t push more and just made sure I could finish the race. I was quite worried about having to pit again, but I was able to continue and finish the race. »
John Booth, Team Principal
« It’s good to finish the race at home, not only with both cars but also with a clear improvement in our pace. Timo recorded the 17th fastest lap in the race and Jérôme overtook Liuzzi at Copse, so both our drivers left the track on a positive note.
The engineers made the right decision on the grid with the tires and implemented a good strategy. All of this was greatly aided by the good work of the mechanics during the pit stops.
We have a busy week ahead of us before the next race in Germany, with a straight-line aerodynamic test. We’re all pushing forward to maintain our current form for Timo’s home race.
