A wave of optimism is blowing through Mercedes GP
The updates made to Silverstone have paid off.
The Mercedes GP team introduced numerous improvements to its W02 for last weekend’s British Grand Prix. Even though the race was not easy for the two team drivers, Ross Brawn is satisfied with the car’s performance level and approaches the rest of the season with optimism.
Main innovation: Red Bull-type exhausts, also used by McLaren and Ferrari, which allow the German team to make their diffuser work better.
« We are on a new path with the exhaust system. With the system we had before, we had explored all its potential and it was difficult to make progress. The new system is encouraging because it allows us to see a greater potential than with the old one, » explains the team principal of Mercedes GP.
« Our challenge – and we have not yet met it – is to overcome our reliability issues. We were not helped by the regulatory change at the engine mapping level, which came while we were in the middle of the project, but overall it is positive. »
Other improvements should appear on the Mercedes GP during the upcoming Grand Prix. « We can see potential in our system, but more importantly, we have things coming that should take advantage of this technology and approach. We are reasonably optimistic. I am optimistic that we will make good progress with this system, » adds the Englishman.
