Saturday: Disappointment at Sauber
After attempting a risky gamble by going out in the final minutes of Q1, Kamui Kobayashi finds himself in 18th place while his teammate ends up in a disappointing 15th place.
Sergio Perez – 15th and 15th
« It is evident that our performances are not good here, and that is why I gave my maximum in qualifying under these circumstances. We are suffering quite a bit here at the Nurburgring. My fastest lap was good; there is no complaint about that. I locked a wheel once, but that’s not the main issue. Maybe the time would have been better by 1 or 2 tenths, but certainly not more. Anyway, this is where we are, and we will do everything to fight tomorrow. »
Kamui Kobayashi – 16th and 18th
« Of course, it’s disappointing to go out in Q1. It’s a tough qualifying which will lead us into a challenging weekend. My best lap wasn’t perfect. There was traffic in front and behind me, but it’s also the fact that we have an overall lack of pace here. The only positive thing is that I now have 2 sets of new soft tires for the race. I will do everything I can to climb up from where I should start. »

« It’s really a bad qualification. After the free practice sessions, we knew Q3 would be difficult, but we should have been better positioned than where we ended up. Unfortunately, Kamui had traffic during his Q1 laps. He wasn’t in a position where he could improve his lap time. Sergio was good at the start. It’s a shame because his first lap on new tires in Q2 looked like a good improvement, but he had an issue in the 3rd sector, which ruined his lap. So he qualified a bit lower than we hoped. It was a poor qualifying session and we need to think carefully about our approach to the race to make the most of it. »
