Sunday: Red Bull disappointed with its performance in the race

Mark Webber – 3rd

I’m disappointed not to have won today, but it’s still a good result. In the end, we needed to try something different, we were leading halfway through, but we couldn’t get the right tire life to shorten the second stint. I drove to the limit, but we weren’t fast enough, that’s all. Lewis was able to cover us every time and matched my race pace, so you couldn’t create a gap. He made a good start, mine wasn’t really, but that’s not the key to the race finish this year. I really did what I could today, it was a really intense race between the top 3 (Lewis, Fernando, and Mark), I was pushing to the limit, but it wasn’t enough to clinch the victory. We are a good and strong team, so we will keep pushing. We know what we need to do.

Sebastian Vettel – 4th

« It was tough, a difficult race. At the beginning, it didn’t seem so bad but I made a mistake, which pushed me back to 5th place and from there, it was difficult to come back. I think 4th place was the best I could do today, it’s not satisfying but we have to accept that others were faster than us. I wasn’t well throughout the weekend and didn’t have the pace that Mark had in the car. The pit stop at the end was fantastic. You enter the pit lane behind the other in your box, and you can’t leave until they’ve changed the tires. When I came out, it was nice to see that the Ferrari was still at a stop, it’s really the guys who did everything, they did a very good job. Felipe and I battled for a good part of the race, and we were both on the limit. We had a problem mid-race with the brakes, but we sorted it out well, so we can be proud of what we did with that. Hungary is the next race, which is normally a good circuit for us, so we will see, but we have work to do. McLaren and Ferrari were very fast in the race and we need to get back to their pace. »

Christian Horner

A fascinating race, obviously, 3rd and 4th from 1st and 3rd on the grid are not really the result we were aiming for, but that’s still some points for our 2 drivers. We had Mark in first place after the first stop by shortening the first stint, but unfortunately, doing the same at the 2nd stop didn’t bring us as much as we hoped and he dropped back to 3rd place. We were looking to extend on his last stint, but third place was the best we could achieve in the end. Sebastian had a spin quite early, and flat-spotted tires, so we went as far as we could with him and he spent part of the race watching Massa’s gearbox. It resulted in a race in the pit lane, and our guys did a phenomenal job, a fantastic stop and got ahead of the Ferrari guys. It was very exciting for us and I think, as Sebastian said on the radio, he owes them the 4th place today.
