The 2012 calendar will be modified
Bahrain and Austin would be moved to the end of the season while Turkey would disappear from the calendar.
While the FIA has already published the calendar for the next World Championship, Autosport reveals that it could be reshuffled by Bernie Ecclestone.
The main change would concern the Bahrain Grand Prix. Teams are not convinced that starting the championship in this country is a good idea. The race would therefore be placed at the end of the championship, following Abu Dhabi in November. This change of date would also have the advantage of giving the authorities nine more months to resolve the political issues that have been affecting the country since the beginning of the year.
The 2012 championship would therefore begin in Australia, which would regain its place as the inaugural round. Then the Formula One Circus would head to Malaysia the following week before going to China and India. After that, F1 would have a three-week break before returning to Europe, in Barcelona.
Just like the GP held on the Sakhir track, the American race could be postponed to the end of the season. The Austin circuit is scheduled to host drivers and teams in June, but there are concerns about high temperatures during this time of year in Texas. The race would therefore be moved just before the Brazilian round.
The calendar would feature 20 races, and Turkey would be the big loser as the Grand Prix held at Istanbul Park would no longer be part of it.
This reshuffle still needs to be proposed to the teams. If they agree, it will then be submitted to the FIA World Council for approval.
