Jenson Button victim of a tasteless hoax
The website of the McLaren driver was hacked on Saturday evening, announcing the Briton in critical condition after a road accident.
Last night, around 11:30 PM, Jenson Button’s entourage was informed of an attack on the McLaren driver’s site, announcing that he had been involved in a traffic accident. Jenson Button, 31, is in critical condition after being involved in a serious accident. Jenson was taken to AEK Hospital in Budapest, where he is under medical supervision. The injuries Jenson sustained during his accident are currently uncertain. Jenson’s team is in contact with the FIA and is currently discussing whether he will be able to participate in tomorrow’s race, the fake statement stipulated.
Immediately, the site jensonbutton.com was closed and security measures were heightened before its reopening this morning, and the representatives of the 2009 world champion present their apologies there for the fear that this bad-taste prank may have caused.
« The story is completely false and it’s a very bad joke, » the McLaren driver’s spokesperson regretted. « Jenson was sleeping in his bed when we were informed that someone had hacked his site and made these false statements. He is completely unaware. We can reassure people, Jenson is in great shape and will take part in today’s race. »
The British driver also wanted to reassure his followers on his Twitter account: « Hello everyone, I’m sure you noticed that someone hacked my website last night. I’m perfectly fine and on my way to my 200th. The guy who did this probably didn’t have a better offer to spend his Saturday night. »
Jenson Button, who will indeed make his 200th Grand Prix start, might have a chance to make an impact this afternoon, as the race is expected to take place on a wet track.
