Briatore: « Fernando Alonso is better than Michael Schumacher »
While Briatore heaps praise on the Spanish driver, he does not rule out the possibility of one day leading Scuderia Ferrari.
Interviewed by a Spanish radio station, Flavio Briatore lavished praise on Fernando Alonso, with whom he won two world championships: « Alonso is one of the greatest drivers and deserves to break Michael Schumacher’s record for titles at Ferrari, » he declared.
« If he had a Red Bull, Fernando would win by a large margin because he is one of the greatest drivers alongside Senna, Prost, and Schumacher, » claims the Italian businessman who also believes that the Spanish driver is better than his German rival. « They are two completely different drivers. Fernando is better because Michael gives up when the situation is difficult, whereas in the same situation, Fernando’s concentration increases. »
Banned for life from Formula One following the Singapore crash scandal, Briatore reached an agreement with the FIA keeping him away from the circuits until 2013. However, during the recent Turkish Grand Prix, Sky Italia suggested the idea of a return of the controversial Italian manager to Maranello, where he had reportedly been seen. “I would like Flavio to come back, we miss him,” Fernando Alonso declared.
When questioned about this possibility, Briatore left the door open: “I am a fan of Ferrari but you never know in life. Anything can happen.” The Italian, however, believes that Alonso can win at Ferrari even without Briatore and deserves to be the best driver in history. He has decided to stay at Ferrari until the end of his career and I hope he will have the machine to win more titles than Schumacher.
