Towards a French GP at Castellet in 2013

The daily Var Matin reveals today that a meeting should take place at Spa-Francorchamps between Eric Boullier, the head of Lotus Renault GP and active for several months in the complex issue of the return of the French Grand Prix; André Maes, the head of the Belgian Grand Prix, and Gilles Dufeigneux, advisor on major events to the Prime Minister, François Fillon.

The idea of alternating between the French and Belgian Grand Prix seems increasingly on the agenda: « Discussions have indeed been ongoing for a few weeks, if not months. We are making progress gradually, but we are progressing well » states André Maes.

Eric Boullier shared on TF1: The location is well chosen because I believe that on Sunday morning, there might be some progress and a media announcement.

As André Maes stated to Var Matin, the three men at the heart of this alternating project should speak with Bernie Ecclestone before making anything official: « I spoke with him on the phone the day before yesterday. He has to attend his daughter’s wedding on Saturday, but he told me he would do everything to come at least on Sunday morning. We’ll see then how things can progress. »

Formula One could therefore make a stop in France again in 2013, after a 4-year absence, making its grand return to the Castellet circuit, more than 20 years later.
