Friday: Crucial Choices Ahead for Toro Rosso
The drivers of the small Italian team showed enthusiasm upon their return to competition, despite the rain. While Jaime Alguersuari expects an unpredictable end to the weekend, his teammate believes that the choice of settings will be crucial tomorrow.
Jaime Alguersuari – 9th and 14th
« It’s always nice to come to Spa, a track that all drivers love because it’s a great feeling to push the car to the limit there. Of course, the changing conditions made life difficult for us but we were still able to get a lot of work done and collect a ton of data to study tonight.
The car seems fast and I’m sure we can expect even more as we haven’t used the softest tires today.
I love driving on a wet track even if it makes life complicated for us during the race, but as far as we’re concerned, this kind of unpredictable race can allow us to achieve a good result. I’m optimistic for the rest of the weekend, and my goal will be to push and score points again on Sunday.
Sebastien Buemi – 14th and 15th
« Overall, I think it was a good day as we drove on wet surfaces, which is almost always the case at Spa, but we also had a little bit of time on a dry track.
We used the medium tires which will be important for the race.
For the new features we have introduced here, it is of course difficult to evaluate them when it rains. We still have a lot to do before tomorrow, and the engineers will have to do their best in the evening to analyze the data and decide which elements work.
Even more rain is expected for tomorrow, but the forecasts predict a race on a dry track, so choosing the right settings for tomorrow won’t be an easy decision.
No matter the weather, driving at Spa is always a great experience and at least we had some time on a dry track today, which is always better than nothing when it comes to understanding how the car behaves.
