Friday: Force India drivers comfortable in the rain
After making a mistake that forced him to retire in the morning, Paul di Resta set the 9th fastest lap during the second free practice, outpaced by Nico Hülkenberg who replaced Adrian Sutil in the afternoon. Far from aiming for the same result as in 2009, both drivers will aim for sixth place.
Paul di Resta – 20th and 9th
« Despite not having completed a large number of laps, I don’t think we are in a bad situation because I managed to drive on both wet and dry tracks. In the morning session, I made times on intermediate tires and made a small mistake towards the end of the session. During the lunch hour, we took some precautions by changing some parts of the car, which held us back slightly when it came to going out for FP2. But I don’t think it cost us much because we were on the track when we needed to be and did our running on the dry. So I’m reasonably happy to move on to tomorrow, but it seems that this uncertain weather could continue and make things tricky for the weekend. »
Nico Hülkenberg – NC and 8th
A classic Spa weather today, but we managed to do some valuable work by evaluating an aero part at the beginning of the session. While the track was dry, I was able to do a lap on medium tires and a few more on softs, which is pretty much like everyone else today. The car felt good today and we just made a few setup changes, so I think it looks promising for the rest of the weekend, whether it rains or shines.
Adrian Sutil – 6th and NC
« We thought it would be on a wet track today, but hoped the rain wouldn’t arrive until the afternoon, which explains why I drove during FP1, and Nico during FP2. As it happened this morning, a very heavy shower soaked the track for practically all the rest of the session. I started on extreme tires, but quickly switched to intermediates and worked on improving the balance. There was a bit of understeer to start, which led us to make some changes in the aero balance. The track dried gradually towards the end of the morning, but there wasn’t enough time left to do a lap on dry tires. We seem fast in the rain and sixth place is a clear sign of where we want to be this weekend. »
