Webber: “It would have been a mistake to stop”

In Belgium, Mark Webber and the Red Bull Racing team confirmed that they will continue to collaborate next season. It had been understood for many weeks that the tall Australian would remain with Red Bull in 2012, but the official announcement of this extension was somewhat awaited.

For Webber, leaving the Austrian team would have been a mistake because he still feels capable of fighting for the world title.

« It may seem that it took time and that I was weighing different options, but in the end the discussions about the contract were very quick, » explains the Red Bull driver.

« I have been an integral part of Red Bull since the beginning and I still love being there. It would have been a mistake to stop. »

Currently second in the championship, at a respectable distance from his teammate Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber has not given up and believes that a surprise is still possible before the end of the championship.

« I am still driving well. I had a bit of a slow start this season because it took me some time to adapt to the new tires. I am eager to beat Seb and anyone else next season. But this season is not over yet. There are still seven races left, starting with Monza and anything can still happen. »

To hope to beat Vettel at the end of the season, it will be necessary to start by stepping onto the top of the podium, which is something Webber has not yet managed to do this season.
