Big news planned for Virgin at Monza
The team should introduce many new features on the rear part of its car for the rest of the season.
The Italian Grand Prix will be an opportunity for Marussia Virgin Racing to introduce a new aerodynamic package featuring significant updates mainly at the rear of the car.
These innovations were initially supposed to make their appearance at the British Grand Prix, but the team’s separation from Nick Wirth’s company delayed the release of this package.
We had some updates in the pipeline for Silverstone and we dismissed them because we thought it was worth it at the time. But Pat reviewed the CFD data and thought it was worth it. So he gave it the green light. We will have it, hopefully, for Monza, explains John Booth to Autosport.
The new developments planned for the Italian Grand Prix will mainly concern the rear part of the MRV02 driven by Timo Glock and Jérôme D’Ambrosio. This will involve the engine cover, sidepods, exhausts, and the floor. There will also be a special Monza rear wing, but this package will be retained for the rest of the season, adds Booth.
The arrival of this important package may surprise at this point in the season when many teams are already focused on 2012, but John Booth claims that this package has in no way disrupted the team’s plans for next season. « It hasn’t interrupted our 2012 program because the majority of the work was already done. It was more a matter of fine-tuning and putting it on the car. »
