McLaren doesn’t want Hamilton to change
The team supports its driver 100% in his aggressive approach to competition.
Since the beginning of the season, Lewis Hamilton has often stood out, and not necessarily in the best way. After Spa, Helmut Marko did not hesitate to nickname the 2008 world champion “Crash Kid” in response to the same moniker that Vettel was given last year by Martin Whitmarsh.
If Hamilton’s aggressive driving style is a topic of debate in the paddock, his employer does not intend to try to change it. Lewis has had ups and downs this season and is a great driver who has won races this year and every year since he’s been driving for McLaren. He always pushes very hard, highlights Philip Prew, the English team’s chief race engineer.
Hamilton undoubtedly hoped to be able to fight for the championship this season, but Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel are outrageously dominating the scene, leaving only crumbs for their opponents. This situation is enough to frustrate a world champion whose appetite is not yet satisfied. This frustration undoubtedly explains some of the borderline maneuvers by the Englishman, but McLaren does not intend to ask him to change his approach to racing.
« We will not ask him to change because Lewis has a very aggressive approach and we fully support him. Lewis is intelligent and a very good driver, he will think about the difficulties he had this year and come back stronger, » adds Prew.
