Barrichello hopes to be in F1 in 2012

Rubens Barrichello stands out as a veteran in the paddock environment. The Brazilian began his career in 1993 with the Jordan team and has since competed in no less than 319 Grand Prix races, which is a record. And the current Williams driver doesn’t plan on stopping there.

« It won’t happen, » responds the native of Castel di Godego when asked if he fears not being present on the grids next season.

The 2011 season for the Williams team is not a success, and all hopes are pinned on 2012, which can only be better for Frank Williams’ team. Numerous changes will occur both in the team’s organizational structure and from a technical standpoint, as Renault will replace Cosworth to reform the legendary partnership of the 90s. These changes give hope to Rubens, who wants to reap the benefits.

« I feel that the team will do better with the change of engine supplier, personnel changes, and everything else, so I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I want to continue because people want it and they know I can win. Otherwise, I would stay at home taking care of the kids and winning my games online. I already won my first virtual race this weekend, it’s great!”, explains the Brazilian driver.

Barrichello is still in discussions with Williams, but some rumors indicate that other candidates might be on the Grove team’s list to support Pastor Maldonado next season. Bruno Senna, Adrian Sutil, Giedo van der Garde, and even Romain Grosjean could thus be appointed to drive the FW34 next year.

« I think the team puts everything into perspective, they know what I can offer. There is nothing else I can say. I am waiting, » adds Barrichello.

If the Brazilian hopes to be at the start in Melbourne in March 2012, he does not expect to last much longer in F1. Not long ago, when a journalist asked him his opinion on the upcoming V6 that will equip the cars in 2014, he replied, “That’s in three years. At that time, I won’t be in Formula One anymore, but at Disneyland, eating hamburgers and going on rides.”
