Schumacher does not expect a miracle at Monza

The Mercedes GP team seemed to be back in form at Spa-Francorchamps. Michael Schumacher achieved a superb comeback. Starting from the very back due to a poorly attached tire in qualifying, the German finished in fifth place just ahead of his teammate.

The German bloc is considered by many as the most powerful engine on the grid, which led Felipe Massa to say that the silver arrows could deliver a surprise at Monza this weekend.

« Mercedes showed that they probably have the best straight-line speed on the grid, and since that’s important on this track (in Monza), they could play a role this weekend, » said the Ferrari driver.

Michael Schumacher shares the opinion of his former teammate on the importance of top speed on the Italian track but does not think that Mercedes will be more advantageous there than elsewhere. “At Monza, straight-line speed is a good thing for us. Tracks with few corners seem beneficial. But honestly, I don’t think it will be enough to change our position because the gap is too significant,” explains the seven-time world champion.

« Given our current ranking, it is realistic to aim for the seventh or eighth place. We are the fourth strongest team. »

Mercedes currently holds a 30-point lead over Lotus Renault GP, which hopes to challenge the German team for this fourth place by the end of the championship.
