Sunday: Schumacher Thrills Mercedes GP

Despite slightly disappointing qualifications, real hopes were held for a good race performance at Mercedes GP. Nico Rosberg attempted the gamble of starting on mediums with a different strategy from the cars in front of him. Unfortunately, his race was quickly cut short by Liuzzi's struggling HRT in the first chicane. Thus, only one W02 remained after a few meters of racing. Schumacher's fifth place saved the weekend for the German team.

Sunday: Schumacher Thrills Mercedes GP

Michael Schumacher – 5th:

« It was a really exciting race today, for me but also for all our fans I think, that’s why I’m happy. The battle with Lewis was very fun and my mirrors seemed very small. We are both known for driving to the limit and that’s what we did. I had to make my car as wide as a truck, but he was faster. The start was ideal. I had a lot of fun today especially because I know there is still more to come in the future with the support we have from Mercedes.

Nico Rosberg – Retirement:

« It’s a disappointing race for me today. I had a difficult start with my medium tires but I managed to gain a place in the first corner, so that was pretty good. Then Liuzzi came like a torpedo on the grass and took me out of the race. It’s a shame because I had a good strategy and as Michael showed, our car was very competitive this afternoon. »

Ross Brawn – Team Principal:

« A fantastic drive from Michael, I’m sure he enjoyed his race here. The guys have done a great job with our starts this year and Michael was able to get through well and show his skill in the first part of the race. Then he had a very tough battle with the McLarens, especially Lewis, which was great competition. We don’t have a fast enough car yet but we are all delighted with Michael’s fifth place today. »

« For Nico, it was a short race and a bad afternoon. We had a good strategy starting on mediums, and given the performances of the other cars at the beginning of the race, it would have been interesting to see how it would have turned out. It’s even more frustrating that he was taken out by a car starting from 24th, but that’s racing. However, we have shown that when we have the right car, we will be able to fight at the front, and that’s our goal for next year. »
