Friday: Ferrari more comfortable in Singapore than at Spa and Monza
The Scuderia seems satisfied with its performance in Singapore and is preparing to compete against McLaren without having too many illusions about its chances of regularly beating Red Bull. The 150° Italia sported a few new features, some of which seem to require a bit more work according to Pat Fry himself.
Fernando Alonso – 4th and 2nd
The first session was interrupted so often, that combined with the fact that it was shortened, we were not able to do as many laps as we would have liked. So we tried to make the most of the second session and this time, everything went well. Overall, I am satisfied with what we were able to see today. Here, as in Monaco, it’s important for a driver to do as many laps as necessary to find their bearings and be able to play with the limits without exceeding them because every mistake is very costly.
Running at night is always a special feeling; it usually takes a little time to adapt, but then, from tomorrow onwards, we can push and try to find the best possible performance. The car behaves more or less as expected and my feeling after this Friday is definitely better than at Monza or Spa, but we must be realistic and not expect too many surprises. The Red Bulls remain favorites here and the McLarens are also very strong. We will try to make the most of every opportunity.
Felipe Massa – 6th and 4th
The heat was the main characteristic of the day and it was very hot in the cockpit! From what we could see, tire degradation is reasonably high, but we know that track conditions can change because it was very dirty today. It will also be important to find the right level of cooling for the brakes and engine. The race will be long and difficult, both for the drivers and the cars.
I think we are in better shape than the last two races and, who knows, maybe we can fight with the McLarens, but we have to wait and see what happens tomorrow. The performance difference between the soft and super soft tires today seemed very high, especially for us, but that doesn’t mean it will be the same tomorrow. The track will get rubbered in and the situation could change. Here you have to be very careful with your driving: today I flirted with the barrier, fortunately without consequences.
