Saturday: Royal road for Red Bull
Red Bull couldn't have dreamed of a better situation today. The Austrian team occupies the first two spots on the starting grid, with Sebastian Vettel ahead of Mark Webber. The German is therefore ideally positioned to clinch his second title tomorrow afternoon.
Sebastian Vettel – 3rd and 1st:
« In my last stint, I may have pushed a bit too hard in turn 10. I think I could have finished the lap but I decided not to because it’s easy to damage the car. I was happy with my first lap, I think the track was improving a bit towards the end so it was possible to go a bit faster, but all in all it was a perfect session and I’m very happy. »
« It’s a very fun circuit and a big challenge. It’s difficult with many turns and the lap is long but we stayed cool and got the job done. It’s great to have both cars on the front row but let’s wait for tomorrow, it’s a long race. »
Mark Webber – 1st and 2nd:
« I am happy with the result. Seb completed a lap difficult for us to beat today, he is very fast here and did a great job for the pole. It’s very rare for him to make a mistake. He was very quick throughout the lap, and putting it all together for us was very difficult. It’s easy to gain time and then lose it. Despite everything, I am happy, and having both cars on the front row is a great result for us. »
Christian Horner – Team Principal:
« A fantastic team performance. Securing a front row is phenomenal and it’s our best qualifying performance in Singapore. It was a difficult session because of the traffic. It got better in Q3 and Sebastian put in a phenomenal first lap that was good enough for pole. He made a small mistake in his second attempt in Turn 10 and abandoned his lap to save the tires, putting him in a good position for tomorrow. Mark made a step forward in the last run, it was a good effort from him on a track where he hasn’t been completely comfortable since the start of the weekend, so it’s a great performance from him and the team. »
