Massa: “Hamilton did not think”
The English driver, Lewis Hamilton, tried to overtake Felipe Massa during the out lap of the last part of qualifying. The Ferrari team deemed Hamilton's reaction inappropriate.
Those who watched the Singapore Grand Prix qualifying session on television couldn’t miss Lewis Hamilton’s impatience during the last part of the qualifications. The English driver was behind Felipe Massa’s Ferrari on the out lap and tried to overtake the Brazilian before starting his fast lap. The McLaren driver forced his way through at turn 19, and an accident was narrowly avoided.
Massa finally eased up to let Lewis Hamilton pass, but he doesn’t understand the Briton’s attitude. « You should ask him, » Massa replied when questioned by an Autosport journalist about what had happened.
« Honestly, I don’t understand what he was trying to do. Three cars were preparing their lap and he tried to…, I don’t know. Ask him. Being in a position to push someone out? Making another mistake? I think he didn’t think it through, once again… »
The Brazilian doesn’t mince his words and admits that this incident disrupted the preparation for his qualifying lap. « Yes, a little bit, but anyway I’m sure he didn’t prepare his either, so I really don’t understand. You should ask him because he might think differently and it was a good decision. »
It is important to note that Lewis Hamilton has already been summoned several times by the track stewards this season for maneuvers that led to incidents, notably with Maldonado and Massa.
