Sunday: D’Ambrosio delivers his best race of the year with Virgin
John Booth believes that Jerome d'Ambrosio delivered his best performance of the season during the Singapore Grand Prix, where he finished in 18th place. Less fortunate, Timo Glock saw his race ruined by a collision with Daniel Ricciardo and then ended up in the wall.
Jerome D’Ambrosio – 18th
I am quite happy with my race today. I got off to a good start and pushed hard during the first two laps before trying to preserve the tires as we were on a two-stop strategy: it was pretty good.
The last stint was long and not easy. I could attack, but I had to keep in mind that I had to take care of my tires until the end of the race. It was quite a good race. I am satisfied and we must continue like this. It’s certainly the most difficult race I’ve done, but I managed to see the finish without too many problems, so it was good.
Timo Glock – Retirement
« It’s a different end to the weekend for the team and for me. I got off to a rather good start, but I lost a place to Jerome because I was on the outside. Then, unfortunately, in the second sector, Ricciardo hit me from behind and from that point on, my steering wheel was no longer straight and in all the left-hand turns, the car was really very difficult to drive.
My tires were degrading a lot on the rear right and then, suddenly, I lost the rear under braking and, when I hit the wall, I think I broke the suspension and it was over. It’s really a shame for the team who worked hard throughout the weekend but that’s racing and now we have to move forward for the next race in Japan.
John Booth, Team Principal
« Jerome undoubtedly delivered his best race of the year today. We were really happy to see him battling with cars that are generally several seconds ahead of us in terms of pace. A well-thought-out strategy by the engineers, flawlessly executed by the mechanics, despite an improvised tire change under the safety car, allowed him to achieve that. I am sure it will be a source of motivation for the remaining races of the season.
Unfortunately, Timo’s race was over on the first lap after Ricciardo collided with him. It’s a shame that we couldn’t see him in action on his favorite track.
It was a very hot and humid weekend for all the guys in the garage; however, they did a fantastic job maintaining the quality of their performances.
