Webber wants to do better in 2012
The 2011 season for Mark Webber is clearly below his previous campaign. The Australian hopes to be in better shape next season, even though he doesn't think he will be able to fight for the world title again.
While he fought for the world title until the last race last year, Mark Webber’s 2011 season is clearly disappointing compared to that of his teammate. Sebastian Vettel will, barring a catastrophe, win his second world championship title and has 9 victories, while Webber has never stood on the top step of the podium this year.
In any case, the Australian will retain the confidence of his employer next season and fully intends to put up a greater resistance against Vettel.
« You can expect me to be stronger next year and I hope to start well as we did in 2010, » explains the Red Bull driver in an interview with Yahoo on the occasion of the Singapore Grand Prix.
Surprisingly, although Webber hopes to do better work next year, he does not expect to fight for the world championship title, believing that 2010 was his last chance to win the world crown. Yes, I think last year was my last chance to be world champion. I pushed very, very hard and did things that others might not have done, so I am proud of what I accomplished.
Further in his interview, the Australian suggests that if he will no longer be able to compete for the world title in the future, it is also because he will no longer have the unconditional support of his team. « To win the championship, you need the team to be 100% behind you. I think it’s difficult for the team to give its maximum to both drivers. If we look at the start we had, it is clear where the support had to go, and I respect that in a way. »
If the Australian is already focused on 2012, he hasn’t forgotten about the upcoming races. « Now, I just want to finish as strong as possible and achieve good results. » The Australian has 5 races left to secure a victory this season.
