Nico Rosberg extends with Mercedes GP
The German driver has signed a multi-year contract with his current team.
Rumors sent Nico Rosberg to Ferrari in 2013, or even earlier, but he will ultimately stay with Mercedes GP for a few more years. The German driver has indeed extended his contract with his current team, thereby securing his services at least until the end of the 2013 championship and beyond, according to the team’s statement. The exact duration of the agreement between Rosberg and his team has not been disclosed, but it is known that the team’s management wanted to sign him for three or four years.
In any case, Nico Rosberg stated just a few days ago that his goal was to win one day with a Silver Arrow, and this new contract aligns with that, which delights him. « I am very happy to have extended my contract with the Mercedes GP Petronas team. Winning at the wheel of a Silver Arrow would be one of the highlights of my life, and I take great pleasure in helping the team become the best in F1, » says Nico Rosberg.
To achieve this, the son of the former 1982 world champion is counting heavily on his team, which has brought in some big names to strengthen its technical department. « I have full confidence that the team will provide me with a car capable of winning races and that we will contribute to the fantastic legacy of the Silver Arrows. I’m expecting great moments in the coming years with the Mercedes-Benz family, » added the German driver.
Rosberg’s enthusiasm is clearly shared by Ross Brawn. “We are delighted to have extended with Nico because we know he is capable of winning races and championships. Nico has delivered exceptional performances for our team over the past two seasons,” Brawn points out.
Mercedes GP could therefore retain its driver line-up for two seasons, as rumors reported by the German press suggest that Michael Schumacher has also extended his contract until the end of the 2013 season.
