Saturday: HRT ahead of Virgin and savors
Despite the traffic and Daniele Ricciardo's inability to improve his best time on his second qualifying stint, the HRT drivers are ahead of their Virgin counterparts and relish what Colin Kolles calls the "best qualifying session of the season."
Vitantonio Liuzzi – 21st & 21st:
« The car was much better than yesterday, especially the balance. It was a good way to end the season as far as qualifications go, ahead of the Virgins. It’s also a good result for me after all the problems we had in Abu Dhabi, so it’s a great feeling to be back in business with a car that works at 100% and allows us to compete with the others. We have shown that when things go right, we can be competitive and that is why we are here.
It could be a crazy race tomorrow as there is a chance of rain, so we are looking forward to it.
Daniel Ricciardo – 22nd & 22nd:
« In the morning, we improved the overall settings and the qualifying session started quite well with the first set of tires, and I was quite happy with the car’s balance. I think we could really improve with the second set and make some changes to achieve that, but for some reason, it didn’t work.
We are in front of the Virgins, which is good, but I couldn’t improve on my second stint, which is a bit frustrating because we could have achieved an even better result.
Now, we must move forward, think about tomorrow’s race, and try to do a better job.
Colin Kolles, Team Principal:
The two drivers did a very good job today in qualifying. It was our best qualifying session of the season. I think we could have done better if we had sent our cars out at the right time on the track to avoid traffic and give our drivers as many laps as possible.
We are in front of the two Virgins and closer than ever to Lotus, which is very positive and reflects the improvement in the car’s performance in the last races.
It seems that the chances of rain for tomorrow’s race are high, so we must be prepared for that as well and try to finish the season on a good note.
