Saturday: Vettel and Red Bull, Kings of Pole Position
Author of his fifteenth pole position in 19 Grand Prix – his thirtieth in his career – Sebastian Vettel breaks Nigel Mansell's record, which he only shared for fifteen days, while Mark Webber joins his teammate on the front row, giving Red Bull every possible chance of victory, unless weather conditions intervene.
Sebastian Vettel – 1st & Pole Position:
« It’s quite special to have the record. Nigel, of course, took three or four fewer races to achieve it, nevertheless, it has been an incredible year for us and an incredible car and it’s not over yet, there’s another chapter tomorrow and I’m very happy. It’s hard to believe. I wasn’t as happy yesterday, but this morning I was more satisfied with the car and its behavior, it was much more to my liking and I was able to start from there and improve to take pole position.
We know what we can do and the time we can achieve, and when we cross the line, we know if we made it or not, without looking at the timesheet. There wasn’t much waste today, it’s an extreme satisfaction and it becomes even better when the engineer tells you over the radio that you made it.
Mark Webber – 3rd and 2nd:
« The qualification was a great effort from the whole team today. It was very close with Sebastian, he put in another great lap, but there wasn’t much between us. It was a good session today and we know that rain is expected, which will shake things up a bit.
It’s great for the people who are at home watching on TV, but it means a few more gray hairs for us sitting in the cockpit. I’m looking forward to the race, it’s a good challenge here and it would be great to end the season with a good result.
Christian Horner, team principal:
This is an incredible achievement for Sebastian and the team today. It’s a new record in Formula One, which represents a little piece of history for Sebastian and is well deserved. He shared the record with Nigel for two weeks and now he has some illustrious names behind him, so it’s a great performance.
It’s also a great performance for Mark Webber today to have locked in the front row for a final Grand Prix, which I’m sure will be very exciting.
