Caterham unveils its 2012 car ahead of schedule

Having already beaten its rivals – primarily McLaren – in the race to unveil new cars, Caterham F1, which initially planned to present its 2012 model in the issue of *F1 Racing* available at newsstands from tomorrow, has been forced to give a first glimpse of the CT01 on its social networks: « Thanks to the speed of postal services, some subscribers of *F1 Racing* have already received their magazine. For those who haven’t seen it yet, here is our 2012 car. We will post other images tomorrow, as well as an interview with Mike Gayscone about the design and the manufacturing process that led to the CT01, the first Caterham Formula One car. »

If this first image does not allow detailing the evolutions made by the Caterham team, the CT01 nevertheless features a nose with what can be called a step at the connection of the nose to comply with the FIA’s imposed reduction of the regulatory height for safety reasons. A solution that should be quite widespread on the 2012 single-seaters, with Ferrari already the subject of rumors concerning a so-called dolphin nose, with a more or less pronounced hump. It is also possible to observe the position of the CT01 exhausts, very advanced on the sidepods following the new rules imposed by the FIA within the framework of the abolition of blown exhausts.

It is worth questioning, however, this “leak” that could easily have been anticipated, as subscribers often receive their magazines the day before the official publication date: marketing ploy or mere imponderable? One thing is certain, unlike Marussia and Virgin—its main rivals for the past two seasons—Caterham, formerly Team Lotus, will be ready from the first tests in Jerez, as the CT01 was one of the first, if not the first, car to successfully pass the mandatory FIA crash test last December.
