The Lotus E20 is born

The Lotus F1 Team has just unveiled its new single-seater, the E20, on the Internet. Unsurprisingly, the team’s official website was overwhelmed by fans and quickly became inaccessible. It was therefore necessary to turn to social media to see the first images of the latest model from Enstone, the 20th.

This Lotus is characterized by a bump around the nose area, which has been lowered by the 2012 regulations. However, this bump seems less pronounced than on other single-seaters, particularly the Ferrari F2012 unveiled on Friday.

This season, Lotus fields a new duo consisting of the 2007 world champion, Kimi Räikkönen, who returns to competition after two years spent in the WRC, and Romain Grosjean, who clinched the title in the GP2 Series last season.

The Finn who recently reconnected with Formula 1 driving in Valencia will conduct a shakedown tomorrow after the presentation of the E20 to the press in Jerez de la Frontera. In the event of unavailability of one of the main drivers, the Lotus F1 Team can count on Belgian Jérôme D’Ambrosio, who will be the team’s third driver. The former Virgin driver is expected to take the wheel of the car during some Friday morning free practice sessions.

The objective is the same as last year, namely fourth place in the constructors’ championship. We hope to have a good car and good drivers, including one who is a former world champion. We hope to bring the car to the front of the pack, and aiming for fourth place is a realistic goal for this season, says Gérard Lopez.

This presentation is also an opportunity for the English team to announce the signing of two new sponsors: Rexona and Clear, two brands of the Unilever company, one of the largest groups in the consumer goods market.
