The film “Senna” receives two BAFTA awards in England

Nominated in the categories of “Best British Film,” “Best Documentary,” and “Best Editing” at the 65th edition of the famous BAFTAs, the documentary film Senna, directed by Asif Kapadia, won in the latter two categories in an awards list that also frequently honored the French film The Artist.

Senna, holder of the best opening in the UK for a documentary, thus adds two new awards in London after those won at the Adelaide, Melbourne, Los Angeles festivals and especially at the famous Sundance festival.

« Each of us made the film with love, and all we receive in return is love; the commercial aspect, deeply cynical, was never considered in our situation. We made this film because we loved Ayrton and you reciprocate that love. » thanks Eric Fellner, the film’s producer, after the award ceremony, before adding: « We must thank Ayrton for having a life that was, unfortunately, too short, but filled with events even more incredible than fiction. »

« We would simply like to thank the Senna family for trusting us with handling his legacy » stated Manish Pandey, the feature film’s screenwriter. « When your son dies in such circumstances and a group of guys shows up saying: « Listen, we want to tell this story, it really touches us and we believe we will tell it accurately », it takes guts to support them, and I would like to thank them for trusting us. »

Stephen Fry, master of ceremonies and multi-talented artist – who notably plays the brother of the famous detective in the latest Sherlock Holmes – had nothing but praise for the film: « Even if you know nothing about Formula One and are not even vaguely interested in motorsports, you will find that Senna is one of the best documentaries you have ever seen. »
