Barrichello in IndyCar: a sponsor and a deal have reportedly been found
The Brazilian driver, supported by the IndyCar broadcaster in Brazil, could participate in road and street races, as well as the Indianapolis 500, on behalf of KV Racing Technology.
With Williams having preferred Bruno Senna for the allocation of their last free seat, Rubens Barrichello was forced to give up on his hopes for a twentieth Formula One season but does not seem to have any intention of giving up on motorsport. Indeed, after testing an IndyCar for KV Racing Technology, the Brazilian driver is seriously considering continuing his career in the North American single-seater championship, as other F1 legends have done before him: “I participated in these tests without the slightest expectation, really. I just wanted to try the car, have a good time, and give the team the best ideas possible for the future. Things went well, and at the end of the day, they asked me if I wanted to participate in the championship. I have always loved being with my family but, honestly, I am eager to get back behind the wheel of a race car: I love the team and they are on the rise,” confessed the Paulista to GPUpdate.net.
The Brazilian therefore seems more than tempted by the IndyCar adventure and promised, during this interview, a decision by the beginning of March, as the season will start on March 25 in the streets of Saint Petersburg, Florida. According to *Autosprint*, it seems that things are taking shape since the former Williams driver would benefit from the financial support of the Brazilian television *Bandeirantes*, the broadcaster of IndyCar in Brazil. The Paulista would thus have the 3 million dollars required by KV Racing Technology and would have reached an agreement with the team to participate in all the road and street events of the season, alongside his compatriot and friend, Tony Kanaan. Barrichello would have also agreed to compete in the famous Indianapolis 500 but would still reserve his decision regarding the four other races held on ovals, the memory of the tragic Las Vegas weekend, marked by the horrific collective accident that led to Dan Wheldon’s death, still lingering in everyone’s minds.
But until then, and no doubt to make a final decision, the Brazilian will participate, behind the wheel of the No. 5 Dallara-Chevrolet, in the Sonoma tests in California, scheduled for February 24 and 25, alongside E.J. Viso, the team’s other regular driver with Tony Kanaan.
