Rosberg: “Now things are moving forward”
Nico Rosberg shares his impressions at the end of the last day of testing at the Barcelona circuit.
Today, Nico Rosberg completed the first week of testing with the new Mercedes F1 W03. Like his teammate the day before, the young German expressed satisfaction with the performance of his car and the progress made by his team.
« We can aim to make progress, it’s important. We can already see it now. The foundation of the car, the team has made significant progress in terms of building this car over the winter. Compared to last year, everything works, » explains Rosberg on the Belgian television RTBF.
Nevertheless, the German remains grounded and does not make any pipe dreams for the new season, which will begin on March 18th in Australia.
« We want to win, and we’re clearly not there yet, but we are making progress and that’s a good thing. The team is moving in the right direction so we hope to accomplish great things as a team, » adds Nico Rosberg to the journalists present in the Barcelona paddock.
Last year, the future of the young German hopeful was the subject of many rumors. He was mentioned as potentially moving to McLaren or even Ferrari, but it’s ultimately with Mercedes AMG that Rosberg’s future is taking shape, and he hopes to win his first Grand Prix with this team in the near future.
“It’s a great motivation to be part of this team and to participate in what’s happening. The progress is evident, so it’s really great to see, and everyone is motivated. You see the progress and it gives you extra motivation because you say to yourself, ‘Okay, now things are moving forward,'” he concluded.
The Mercedes AMG team has been the focus of much attention from its competitors. Besides a derivative of the F-Duct, renamed W-Duct by the English, the F1 W03 is also said to have a system resembling the double diffuser introduced by Brawn GP in 2009. However, no confirmation has been given on this matter.
The teams will be back in Barcelona from March 1 to 5. Ferrari and Red Bull will opt for a staggered schedule from the 2nd to the 5th, as will Lotus likely, while the other 9 teams will be on track from the 1st to the 4th.
