The Marussia MR01 passed all the crash tests
The Marussia team announced that its 2012 car, the MR01, has successfully passed all the FIA crash tests - Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile. It has therefore been homologated and will be able to race throughout the 2012 season.
After conducting the first tests of the MR01 yesterday at Silverstone, the Marussia team announced today that it successfully passed the 18 mandatory FIA crash-tests for the homologation of its single-seater. The MR01 will therefore be able to run in all the Grand Prix of the 2012 season.
«After several challenging weeks for the team, we are delighted to have overcome the final obstacle of the crash test imposed by the FIA, which we successfully passed today, » explains Pat Symonds in a statement released by Marussia.
Pat Symonds, the technical consultant for the Marussia F1 team, also revealed that a component had failed during the previous attempt but it was a minor failure. The part in question was therefore reinforced for this new successful attempt.
« A few minor adjustments to our original concept of the part (defective) were all that was required (to pass the crash test). We were all thrilled to see the new car on track these past two days, and while we have a lot to catch up on, we are pleased to be back on a more positive path. We now look forward to the challenge that the season opener in Melbourne presents next weekend, » added Pat Symonds.
