The FIA could sanction Vettel
Following his repeated obscene gestures after his clash with Narain Karthikeyan, Sebastian Vettel could be sanctioned by the FIA.
In order to better manage the drivers even outside of F1, the FIA has decided to implement a stricter code of conduct this season – this follows notably from Hamilton’s antics in Australia in 2010. Now, with this regulation, drivers are required to maintain impeccable behavior both during race weekends and outside of them.
But Sebastian Vettel’s attitude clearly does not fit within that framework, and according to several German publications, the Red Bull driver may have violated one of the FIA regulations he signed at the beginning of the season, and the governing body could therefore sanction him.
He violated the code of conduct. You sign it when you get the license and then you must conduct yourself accordingly. Any behavior that harms others or the sport constitutes an infraction, Marc Surer, former F1 driver, told Sky Germany.
Narain Karthikeyan, criticized by Sebastian Vettel after the race, found allies – notably with the two Force India drivers. David Coulthard, former Red Bull driver and current consultant, also believes that the Indian driver is not at fault: “He can’t make his car invisible,” the Scot told the Mirror.
