Cuquerella appointed Technical Director of the HRT team
Unoccupied since the departure of Geoff Willis, the position of Technical Director at team HRT has just fallen on the shoulders of Toni Cuquerella.
The Spanish team HRT announced yesterday that they have appointed Toni Cuquerella as the Technical Director of the team. The Spaniard, who previously served as an engineer at HRT, has been promoted to a position that had been vacant since September 2011 following the departure of Geoff Willis.
Cuquerella, who went through the WTCC and then F1 with Super Aguri in 2006 before working with the BMW Sauber team, became involved with the Campos GP project from the end of 2009, a project that has since become HRT. He expressed delight at this promotion.
« The role of Technical Director involves a great responsibility concerning coordination and decision-making. That is why I am proud that the management considers me the most suitable person to carry out these tasks, » stated Toni Cuquerella in the press release issued by HRT.
The Spanish engineer knows that one of his first tasks will be to work on the development of the F112, which did not begin under the best auspices with the recent changes made within the HRT team.
Until now, there had been a lot of dispersion within the technical team, and this had repercussions on the design and quality of the F112. My priority is to solve the current issues of the single-seater and then develop it to its maximum potential, while unifying and developing the technical department. However, I am convinced that we have a good working foundation, a clear direction to move forward, and a good project for the future, added the new Technical Director of the Spanish team.
