Saturday: Pérez and Kobayashi in the top 10
The two Sauber drivers managed to qualify in Q3 today, with a special mention to Kamui Kobayashi who will start from 3rd place on the grid. Sergio Pérez will start from 8th position. Both men hope to take advantage of their good positions to score big points in the race tomorrow.
Kamui Kobayashi – 8th and 4th (3rd on the grid)
I’m really happy, the team has done a great job. For a while now, we’ve been saying that we needed to improve our performance in qualifying, and I think this was a significant improvement today. Apparently, I’ll be starting 3rd tomorrow because Lewis Hamilton had to change his gearbox.
This starting position allows me to have high hopes. But I’m not someone who dreams; the goal remains the same: to score as many points as possible. We have a good car that doesn’t wear the tires too much, so I’m approaching the race very confidently.
Sergio Pérez – 7th and 8th
This was a good result for the team in qualifying. Personally, I have to admit that I hoped to do better than 8th. After the previous stints that had been very promising, in my last lap in Q3, I was on new soft tires, and I suddenly had understeer. I don’t know where that came from. Whatever happens, the race will be tough tomorrow and I will give it my all.
