Sunday: Tire issues for Glock at Marussia

While Charles Pic was on par with Timo Glock during the race, the latter regrets the absence of KERS, which quickly caused him to lose the positions he gained at the start, but also complains about the pronounced degradation of his front left tire.

Sunday: Tire issues for Glock at Marussia

Timo Glock – 19th:

« It wasn’t a smooth race as far as I’m concerned. The start was good, and I managed to get ahead of a few other cars, but they overtook me again thanks to DRS and KERS [which Marussia doesn’t have]. Then, I was battling with my teammate and managed to widen the gap a bit. However, for some reason, my front left tire degraded too quickly every time. Charles seemed to have a better car for the race, and he was able to make up the gap. I had to pit earlier than planned, but I had good in-and-out laps from the pits and managed to use the tires properly.

In the second stint, I managed to maintain the gap with Charles and take care of the tire, but it still collapsed, and I had a lot of understeer.

From the second stop, I had a good race pace and was able to widen the gap again until they started waving the blue flags at me. Suddenly, the engine started to lose power because I didn’t have much fuel left, so I was focused on the idea of bringing the car to the finish.

There are things we need to look at and learn from the race because they held us back. The positive aspect is that there is a lot more potential to be extracted from the car. The team worked well, especially during the pit stops.

Charles Pic – 20th:

« I think it was a good race for me. We reduced the gap with the Caterhams once again, so that’s very good. I was also matching Timo’s lap times today, so that’s another step forward for me. We must now continue like this and push because it’s certain that the car has potential.

I think we can do a good job with the strategy because, now that we’ve closed the gap, maybe we can try different things to get ahead on the track.

It was another good weekend for me, so thanks to the whole team and my mechanics who did a great job. I hope to see further improvement in Bahrain next week, where I will be on a track I know for the first time this season.
