D’Ambrosio will drive the Lotus at Mugello
Jérôme d'Ambrosio will have the opportunity to get back behind the wheel of an F1 single-seater. The Belgian driver is expected to drive the Lotus E20 during the private tests at Mugello, which will take place at the beginning of May.
Not retained by the Marussia team at the end of 2011, Jérôme d’Ambrosio joined the Lotus F1 team this year as a test and reserve driver. The Belgian driver has been observing the performances of the two main drivers – Räikkönen and Grosjean – since the beginning of the season, but his time should soon come.
D’Ambrosio should have the opportunity to test the Lotus E20 during the private tests scheduled at the Mugello circuit from May 1st to 3rd – just before the start of the European season.
It’s important for me to get back in the car. I haven’t driven since Brazil. I need to stay ready, and all of this is positive for me and for the team. My role is active within the team, the Belgian driver told RTBF.
For the moment, the Lotus F1 team has not revealed its program for these Italian tests, but with three testing days planned, each driver could have a day, allowing Jérôme d’Ambrosio to readjust to being behind the wheel of an F1 in case he needs to replace Kimi Räikkönen or Romain Grosjean.
