New Jersey assures that its Grand Prix is on schedule
Although Bernie Ecclestone mentioned potential delays for the Grand Prix of America, scheduled in New Jersey in June 2013, for the first time, the race promoter assures that they are on track to meet the deadlines.
In 2013, Bernie Ecclestone was supposed to see his dream of a Grand Prix near New York come true after a race project planned on the banks of the Hudson River, with a view of Manhattan’s skyscrapers, was made official last October. Although the New Jersey project has received very little attention since, unlike its Texan counterpart, the F1 supremo hinted for the first time on the BBC that the Grand Prix of America, scheduled for June 2013, might be delayed.
It didn’t take long, however, for Leo Hindery Jr, the promoter of the event, to deny any potential delays on the specialized channel Speed: « The Formula One Grand Prix of America, at Port Imperial, is on schedule, in all aspects, for June 2013. The garages and other permanent facilities are currently under construction […]. We are working closely with Bernie Ecclestone and F1 to make this race a success for the region, the fans, and the sport, and it will be. »
In October 2011, Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey, assured Formula One that coming and organizing this event in New Jersey is one of the wisest decisions it has ever made. However, it will probably be necessary to wait for the publication of the final calendar at the end of the year to be sure that the grand circus of F1 will set up near New York as of June 2013 for a race on a temporary and undulating 5.14-kilometer circuit designed by the indispensable Herman Tilke, winding around the Imperial Port and providing a link to Manhattan Island.
