Boullier sees a world champion future for Grosjean
After the Franco-Swiss driver secured his first podium in Formula One, Eric Boullier believes that Romain Grosjean has the speed and talent necessary to become world champion one day.
After scoring his first points in China, Romain Grosjean further opened the door to the French F1 pantheon by stepping onto the podium at the Bahrain Grand Prix, something no French driver had done since Jean Alesi at the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix.
Naturally, this performance did not escape the attention of the Lotus team director, even though it was more the form than the result that Eric Boullier appreciated: More than the podium, what was impressive was that he finished so close to Kimi and only 10 seconds behind Sebastian Vettel, the Frenchman told *Autosport* before adding that he did not expect to see his two drivers finish so close to each other.
In light of the performance of his driver in Bahrain, the Lotus team director promises him a great future in Formula One: « It means that he is now capable and ready to compete at the highest level. He has the speed and talent to become a world champion one day. »
But the native of Geneva is not the only satisfaction for Eric Boullier, who is pleased with Kimi Räikkönen’s form: « There is still more to come. He has shown several times that he has the pace. When he needed to recover after a poor qualification, he was able to do so. It took him very little time to make up for his two years of absence, and he showed this weekend that he is indeed there. »
