Mugello Testing: Räikkönen Will Not Drive After All
The Lotus team had planned for Kimi Räikkönen to drive tomorrow, but it will ultimately be Romain Grosjean at the wheel of the E20; the Finn will not be driving in Italy after all.
For the Mugello tests, the Lotus F1 team had planned for Jérôme d’Ambrosio to run on the first day, Kimi Räikkönen on the second day, and Romain Grosjean on the third and final day. But ultimately, the Enstone team announced today that the Finn will not drive at Mugello.
So it will be Romain Grosjean who will be behind the wheel of the Lotus E20 tomorrow instead of Räikkönen, and he will follow up with a second day of testing on the Italian circuit on Thursday, as planned. It was James Allison who revealed the information in the first-day report published by Lotus, even though he did not specify the reason why Räikkönen will not be driving.
“We had a busy schedule for Jérôme with a lot of aerodynamic work, work with sensors, and of course preparing the groundwork for Romain for the next two days. We were able to do part of this work with a limited number of laps in the dry, but there will still be a lot to do on Wednesday and Thursday. The most important thing is that we have a good base to start from, so the next two days should be more productive,” said the technical director of the Lotus F1 team.
