Rosberg imagines ending his career with Mercedes
Nico Rosberg confided to the German press that he would like to end his F1 career with the Mercedes AMG team, with whom he is starting his third season this year.
After four seasons with the Williams F1 team from 2006 to 2009, Nico Rosberg joined the Mercedes GP team, now known as Mercedes AMG, at the beginning of 2010. The German driver found a team where he feels comfortable and managed to clinch his first F1 victory with the Silver Arrows in China a few weeks ago.
Rosberg is therefore a happy driver and he told the German press that he could easily imagine ending his career with the Mercedes team. In silver forever? Why not, Rosberg said, as quoted by Sport Bild.
The young Nico would like to emulate his father, Keke, who won a Formula 1 World Championship title in 1982. Achieving this feat with Mercedes would be even more special for him: «My main goal is to be world champion with the Silver Arrows. For me, it would be even more meaningful than winning with Ferrari.»
Asked about the driver he would like to see by his side, Nico Rosberg explained that it mattered little to him: “I don’t care, it could be anyone – Sebastian (Vettel), anyone. I don’t see any problem on that side.”
But he would like to continue with his current teammate, Michael Schumacher – seven-time world champion: « I think it would be good if he stays. He is at an excellent level right now. I can very well imagine Michael extending (his contract).»
Norbert Haug, the vice-president of Mercedes-Benz’s motorsport division, shares the same opinion as Rosberg and believes that Michael Schumacher could continue the adventure with the Brackley team, as he told Sport Bild: “I don’t think he will go to another team.”
