Horner sees Webber staying with Red Bull in 2013
Christian Horner believes that Mark Webber has no reason to leave Red Bull at the end of 2012, despite rumors linking him to Maranello.
Following Felipe Massa’s difficult start to the season, many rumors have emerged regarding his replacement, and the one linking Mark Webber to Scuderia Ferrari has been very persistent – with the Spanish press even announcing the signing of a pre-contract.
Ferrari quickly denied this information, just like the Australian driver, who stated that he was focusing on his current season rather than thinking about these rumors.
It’s Christian Horner’s turn, the director of the Red Bull team, to give his opinion. He believes there is no reason for his driver to leave the Austrian team at the end of the season even if his contract is up. He told *Autosport* not to pay attention to these rumors: « Every spring there seems to be a rumor sending Mark [Webber] to Ferrari. He’s not wearing a red suit. I think it’s inevitable, almost every driver on the grid has been announced alongside Fernando (Alonso) next year, but we are focusing on ourselves. »
Horner also confided that the team was happy with the Australian’s performances and that they would discuss his future later in the year, as in previous seasons: «Mark enjoys being in our team, he is happy here and we are happy to have him with us. At the right time, later in the year, we will discuss his future as we have done in previous years. It’s something we will discuss later. I’m not aware of any discussions. I think Mark is happy where he is, he’s in a good position with us, but inevitably, rumors are part of the game.»
