A new film about Senna in the works?

After the documentary directed by Asif Kapadia, Ayrton Senna’s life could once again be brought to the screen, this time as a biopic, with Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro tipped to play the Brazilian idol: “I haven’t signed anything. It’s just a rumor for now,” the actor recently seen in “I Love You Phillip Morris,” “Che,” “300,” “Love Actually,” and “Lost” told Collider.com, before acknowledging that “there are ongoing discussions.”

The native of Rio de Janeiro, aged 36, also indicates that a script is currently being written: « I can’t say too much, I’m sorry, I just can’t say more. There’s already something like a structure. They’re trying to figure out how they’re going to put this together. It’s really a big, big project: this explains that. »

Rodrigo Santoro knows, however, that Ayrton Senna is a sensitive subject to tackle and that it will not be done without the agreement of the driver’s family: « In Brazil, it’s… the word “enormous” wouldn’t be enough to describe it. He’s a hero, a true hero. It’s a delicate subject: I tried to be very careful in the way I approached it. If we make the film, if we really move forward with this project, it will be with his family, it will be done completely in a very, very careful and respectful way. So, yes, it could become possible in the future. For now, we continue to discuss it, but it’s progressing. »

But Santoro is convinced that it will be incredible if everything progresses well: The whole question is to find the right people to do this, because it is an international project. [Ayrton] was always a bit everywhere, mainly in Europe.
