Friday: Not Everything is Perfect Yet at Toro Rosso

Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo continued the aerodynamic tests that began at Mugello this morning in Spain. The two men then worked to prepare for the rest of the weekend. While the Frenchman seems rather optimistic, the same cannot be said for his teammate, who believes the team still has work to do to reach Q3 tomorrow.

Friday: Not Everything is Perfect Yet at Toro Rosso

Jean-Eric Vergne – 11th and 16th

This morning, I continued the aerodynamic comparisons started during the Mugello tests. This afternoon, we mainly worked for the race and I feel that we have found good solutions. Now, we need to start thinking about qualifying and how to improve the balance, but for the moment it doesn’t seem too bad. I tested both types of tires, and as you might expect, the Softs provide a huge advantage with low fuel on one lap and the Hards have a longer lifespan, but overall, it will be interesting to see what the tire strategy will bring on Sunday. The new developments? It’s hard to judge improvements because the other teams are also developing their cars.

Daniel Ricciardo – 16th and 17th

We tested different aerodynamic settings this morning, and we weren’t convinced by our pace. So we decided to make some adjustments to the car for the afternoon session in terms of aero. This allowed me to have a slightly better feeling with the car, but we still need to work hard on the settings to find that little extra here if we want to fight for Q3 on Saturday. I have some ideas of what we want to do, and the engineers, who are surely smarter than me, probably have some good ideas in mind as well.
