Saturday: Disappointment for Toro Rosso drivers
Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo hoped to be able to join the fight for a place in Q3, but things didn't go as planned. Both men failed to get past Q2, but they remain optimistic, and the Frenchman believes he has a chance to score points in the race tomorrow.
**Jean-Eric Vergne – 7th and 14th [after Lewis Hamilton’s demotion]:**
I have mixed feelings after this qualifying session because, from a personal perspective, I felt that I did a better job than in previous sessions this year and, for the first time this year, I did better than my teammate. On the other hand, I think we are lacking something from the car’s perspective. Everyone in the team has worked hard to bring updates for this race, but others have done the same and apparently a bit more than us. We still have work to do, but the positive point is that we have improved the car since yesterday, and I feel that our pace on long runs is good, so we will see what tomorrow brings us. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to aim for a few points.
Daniel Ricciardo – 13th and 15th [after Lewis Hamilton’s disqualification]:
This was not an ideal session for me. Since yesterday, I feel like we were looking for a better balance at the front and rear, and even though we made significant changes overnight, it did not have the expected effects on lap times or the feeling with the car. In Bahrain, I had a good Saturday and a bad Sunday, so let’s hope it will be the opposite this time. I’m not going to dwell on today’s performance and now I’m focused on having as good a race as possible.
