Saturday: confidence is key at Sauber
Sergio Pérez and Kamui Kobayashi managed to qualify for Q3 today, even though the Japanese driver couldn't defend his chances due to a hydraulic problem. Both Sauber drivers want to take advantage of their good positions to score big points in the race tomorrow.
Sergio Pérez – 5th and 5th [after Lewis Hamilton’s disqualification]:
« Today’s practice session was not easy for me, but in qualifying the car felt really good. I think it’s the result we were hoping for and maybe even a bit better than expected. The field is so tight that a tenth of a second can make a big difference, and you always think you can go a little faster. So in the end, it’s a bit frustrating to be only sixth because a slightly better position was possible. I nonetheless think we can be strong in the race. It will depend a lot on tire wear tomorrow, which is quite high here. I want to have a perfect race and score as many points as possible, or even come home with a pleasant surprise. »
Kamui Kobayashi – 3rd and 9th [after Lewis Hamilton’s demotion]:
« We really achieved a great performance during the qualifications, and I could feel that we haven’t yet gotten the most out of the car. In Q1, I had a bit of traffic, and in my best lap in Q2, there was room to do better on my end. I think we could have fought for a position in the top 5, and that’s what I was hoping for. But then, after the checkered flag in Q2, I was told on the radio that I had to stop the car because there was a hydraulic problem. However, the team did a fantastic job to get us both into Q3, and I am confident for tomorrow’s race.
